A geosite is a site of geological interest or linked to the exploitation of a geological or mineral resource. They are of educational and/or scientific and/or tourist interest.
To help you find your way around, 5 categories of geosite have been identified:
“Discovery sites” are sites that can be explored with the whole family, and are usually equipped with interpretation tools (panels, interpretation tables, guide-books). They allow you to discover a site and, more often than not, its place in the history of the massif.
Remarkable landforms are interesting geological objects that are often visible and form the basis of particular morphologies. They are not intended as destinations for walks, but will help you to understand the nature of the massif.
Viewpoints are sites selected for their beauty and the educational value of the panoramas they offer.
Underground worlds : These underground networks are among the most important in Savoie and are only open to informed visitors. Their openings are nonetheless magical places where you can learn about the astonishing underground journey of water.
The Great Lakes: Although there are only 2 of them, they are the largest natural glacial lakes in France (Lake Geneva is shared between France and Switzerland!).
