The Geoparks develop research, preservation and promotion activities on the geological heritage in conjunction with the region’s other heritages (natural, cultural, intangible), education and awareness-raising for the general public, and economic development through the creation of new products and jobs, particularly in the geotourism sector. The geopark undertakes any action that aims to clarify and strengthen the links that between Man and the Earth.
The label contributes to the economic and tourist development of an area by promoting geo-heritage (geological landscapes and curiosities, past and present uses of soil and subsoil resources) and other heritage (tangible, intangible, cultural, etc.). The karstic networks and perched synclines were the two Baujus geological assets that were highlighted in the application.
Our objective of the UNESCO World Geopark label is to ensure that every inhabitants and every visitors from France and abroad discover or rediscover the area from a new perspective and that the area develops in a sustainable way.
The Geotourism is defined as sustainable tourism that enhances the geographical and geological character of a destination in the broadest in the broadest sense: its geology, environment, culture, aesthetic value and well-being of its inhabitants, its terroir.
The characteristics of a UNESCO Global Geopark are as follows:
- A remarkable geological heritage of international importance,
- A well-defined territory and a management structure,
- A sustainable development policy: conservation, education, geotourism, products, etc.
- A linking geological, natural, cultural and intangible heritage.
- The Geopark label recognises the geological wealth of the Massif des Bauges massif and the way it is showcased.
- The label contributes to the region’s economic and tourist development by promoting the region’s geo-heritage (geological landscapes and geological curiosities, past and present uses of the resources and subsoil resources) and other heritage (tangible, intangible, cultural, etc.). The karstic networks and perched synclines were the two baujus’ geological assets.
