This website, dedicated to the UNESCO Global Geopark approach, provides a key to discovering the area. It is supported by the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park.
The Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park is a remarkable geological area. You can read a few pages of the history of the Alps and the Earth in its landscapes and at its exceptional sites. The Massif des Bauges Geopark is noted for its great limestone reliefs punctuated by magnificent perched synclines, but also for its exceptional underground and aquatic heritage.
A window on time, the Massif des Bauges Geopark tells part of the geological story of the Alps. The diversity of its rocks bears witness to the very different landscapes that have succeeded one another, from the sea to the mountain range. It also bears witness to a rich glacial past that has shaped its forms, organised the circulation of its groundwater and shaped farming practices. This geological heritage has long guided the history of human occupation. In an age of easy resources, we may have forgotten our ties to the Earth, but this link is still essential, and a value for the future! The Geopark invites you to discover this relationship using all the means at your disposal: fun or gourmet discoveries, educational escapades, hikes or sporting explorations of the massif. A network of geopartners has been set up to help you discover the area.
